Day Four

After a short hiatus, I picked it up again starting on day four. Yoga X is the program of choice for today. Having never done yoga before I found the stretches to be fairly difficult and the program extremely long. YogaX runs an hour and thirty minutes where the other programs run roughly an hour.

I definitely again struggled through the program. The first half of the program will have you in the plank and upward dog positions a lot, wearing your arms down. If you find yourself wanting to give it up, keep in mind that the last 20 minutes roughly are spent in your butt or back which helps take a lot of stress off your legs and arms which are worked pretty hard throughout the program.

Things over the course of the next week or two should be a lot more smooth as I am off work, and looking for jobs. Current plan is to wake up, and do the workout immediately. Do a few other things I want to get done then write the post for the day.

Tomorrow is legs and back, and a third round of Ab RipperX. Bring it!

Day Three

I am writing this a few days late.  A couple of days ago I completed day three of the program doing the Shoulders & Arms program along with Ab RipperX. Before I talk about that workout I just wanted to talk about what to expect in terms of how your going to feel going into day three and even on day four.

If you haven’t already heard, the Plyometrics routine will tear you up.  Not only is the routine hard to finish, in two or three days you will be moving pretty gingerly as a result.  This is mainly going to be your lower body, for me it was mainly my thighs and hamstrings (which take the brunt of the Plyometrics routine).  This will generally make your workouts harder.  You are going to be in some pretty heavy discomfort as your muscles recover from what you just put them through.

As far as Shoulders and Arms goes, that routine wasn’t bad.  I am using the bands so it’s taking a bit of playing to figure out how much weight is enough for each routine.  Overall I don’t have a lot to say about this routine, it’s pretty straight forward and not nearly as difficult at least for me as the others have been this far.  Ab Ripper on the other hand, I already saw marked improvement in what I could handle.  That was a great thing to see compared to day one where I barely could do any of it.

One last thing I wanted to note since it’s obviously been a few days since I last posted.  I have been pretty busy over the past few days with my contract ending, and some friends moving as well as just trying to recover from the soreness.  That being said I am not quitting, cheating or anything like that on the program.  In fact it should pick up now as my free time will increase quite significantly.  The only thing I need to determine is weather I should start over… or continue on.

Day Two

Yesterday was day two. I can say that I am already quiet worn out as far as my shoulders go. Part of that I think is due to the extreme nature of the workouts and me being so out of shape. At the same time I think it’s also due to doing the same routine twice in a matter of 3 days. Either way, i’m definitely fighting fatigue.

Definitely was feeling some soreness from the Ab Ripper program. Seems to be forming around my rib cage first and radiating out. That was an extremely hard program for me. My thighs were burning equally if not more than my abs.

Today was somewhat interesting as it was Plyometrics. Lots of jumping and things like that. Being on the 5th floor of an apartment building i really have to make sure I land well and quietly on each move. I feel that my building is constructed pretty well, I guess this will be the ultimate test. I wasn’t able to complete the entire plyometrics program mainly due to fatigue in my hamstrings and feeling like I was starting to get a bit sloppy. So I finished about two thirds of the way through. This from my research is pretty common and often recommended your first time.

Still need to take my measurements. I have the before photos done but need to make an effort to do the measurements this evening.

Day One

With day one in the books, and my body being tired and sore I wanted to quickly write up my thoughts for the day. One quick note before I get into things too much. I don’t want these daily writings to get too in depth or detailed. I would like to keep them general, short and sweet. Outlining things that I have found that do or don’t work as well as generally documenting my ninety days.

So as far as the day one goes, I think it goes without saying that it was difficult. I felt generally weak and had to pause the video a few times for recovery. Not totally unexpected. An Ripper was pretty brutal as well. Expecting some serious soreness tomorrow from that alone. I had done a lot of research about this program and most said that the first week is pretty brutal. That’s okay though. I will continue to fight through and having done strength training before I know it will come in time.

I also thought that now might be a good time to talk about equipment.

Plyometrics Tips

Real quick note, just came across this great Youtube video offering a couple valuable tidbits about your first time through Plyometrics which I will be doing this evening.  Jonathan Register gives some great insight into just what you might be in for your first time through.  Cheers!

Bring It!

Tomorrow morning, I will start on what surely amounts to be one of the most rigorous training regimens I have ever exposed myself to. Tomorrow I will begin week one of a 90 day beat down known as P90x.

Since late 2006 I have been working on trimming down slowly, and have done it in small increments. At one point i had lost 65 pounds and hit the first of my set goal weights. Since then life has thrown me the proverbial curve ball and I have had some trouble getting back to what I was doing. Rather then continue trying and failing to get back to my old routine I though why not shake things up a bit. Freak my body out a little and try to get a massive response. What better to do just that then one of the most well known kick your butt workouts than P90x.

Yesterday morning I began the journey with an early morning dabbling. Lacking the gear I only got in about half the workout, however I will return to day one now with the proper gear. Last night I also took before photos, tonight I will take measurements, however I am not going to share any of these details.

Tomorrow starts day 1 bright and early at 6:00 AM.
